Background
The anti-lambda antibody may be used for the detection of abnormal immunoglobulin production, e.g.. monoclonal gammopathy with increased production of both free and bound lambda chains. In this context the differentiation from kappa light chains or heavy chains is of importance. The antibody stains B-cells in lymphoidal tissue and peripheral blood as well as plasma cells expriming lambda chains (especially useful in formaldehyde-fixed paraffin sections). Reed-Sternberg-Cells may be stained if exogenous Ig has been absorbed. The antibody may be helpful for the detection of the monoclonal nature of lymphoidal neoplasms. Immunoglobulins are composed of heavy and light chains and the light chains may be of the kappa or lambda type. In humans app. 35% of light chains are lambda chains. In gammopathy these light chains can occur in high concentration as free lambda chains. Human lambda light chain (free and bound), no cross-reactivity with kappa chains.
